Foods for Healthy Skin
Foods for Healthy Skin
Ever wondered how to have a natural glowing skin? The steps are easy. You just have to be mindful of the food you put inside your mouth and the lifestyle that you choose. Moreover, what we eat reflects on our skin.
According to dermatologist Dr. Vicky Belo, eating fruits and vegetables that are rich in antioxidants and vitamins will delay and prevent cell death, helping a person to have a natural glowing skin, and even fight aging.
Examples of antioxidants includes Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Selenium, Lycopene, and Lutein.
Green, leafy vegetables such as Spinach, lettuce and Broccoli, and fruits such as Orange, tomato, lemons, and strawberries are a good source of these vitamins and minerals that act as antioxidants. For those who enjoys the satisfaction of chocolate, you will be glad to know that chocolate is also a good source of antioxidants, in particular dark chocolate.
Omega-3 Fatty Acid
Omega-3, an oil produced by fish, is also essential in having a good skin and good health. Omega-3 is an essential fatty acid that contributes to having a glowing skin by preserving the collagen of the skin to keep it firmer. A good source would be Salmon, Tuna, Lake trout, Sardines, and many more. Moreover, taking an Omega-3 fatty acid rich food contributes in lowering the triglycerides and the fats the is circulating in our body.
Who would not forget the importance of water? Water or any liquids (fresh fruit juices which are rich in vitamins), keeps body hydrated which helps in keeping our skin soft and glowing. Moreover, it helps our sweat glands to produce non-foul smelling body odor especially if we are sweating. Consume at least 2-3 liters per day.
On the top of everything, Vitamin D is important for having healthy skin. A main source is sunlight. Sun exposure nourishes our skin but too much of it can cause damage and skin cancer especially for those who enjoys the beach. However, sunscreens or sunblock can be applied by those who would love to enjoy the sun but still avoid skin damage. Other food sources of vitamin D include oily fish, dairy, eggs and certain mushroom varieties.
To summarize everything, we just have to remember the following in attaining a healthy, glowing skin: Eat foods and vegetables that are good source of antioxidants to fight cell death.
Consume Omega-3 fatty acid rich food such as Salmon and Sardines to preserve collagen of our skin making it tighter. (NOTE: helps in preventing Wrinkles!)
· Keep yourself hydrated.
· Do not be afraid of the sun. Get enough Vitamin D in your diet
